Recently, I had a discussion with the team at Student Wellness Services, the campus facility responsible for the physical well-being of our students, on how best to ensure the safety of everyone on campus amidst the spread of the new omicron variant. They were eager to offer their insights and guidance, as we all share the responsibility of ensuring that our students can continue to learn in person.
According to Student Wellness Services, it is crucial for all students, faculty, and staff to closely monitor their health and immediately report any COVID-like symptoms or potential exposure to minimize the spread of the virus. They also emphasized the importance of staying up-to-date with the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In the event of contracting the virus, Student Wellness Services recommends isolating for five days or until symptoms subside, followed by five days of wearing a mask. However, if an individual has received the booster, the CDC advises that they do not need to quarantine following exposure but should wear a mask for ten days.
To limit exposure to others during quarantine, Student Wellness Services suggests that students maintain a "Go Bag" with essential items such as comfortable clothing, chargers, and school materials. Additionally, they recommend including comforting items such as a fun book to read.
In conclusion, let us prioritize the safety of ourselves and others in the Southeastern community by following the recommended safety measures provided by Student Wellness Services and the CDC.
So stay safe and remember It’s not just your health and safety on the line, we’re all in this together Southeastern!
